Android XR is moving beyond headsets and into everyday eyewear. Warby Parker has confirmed that pre-orders for its first Intelligent Eyewear collection will open on 12 November 2026, with customer deliveries planned for the holiday season. Gentle Monster has separately confirmed that its own first collection will launch in December 2026.
The two collections are being developed with Google and Samsung as part of the Android XR platform, giving Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses their clearest large-scale rival yet.
What has been confirmed?
- Warby Parker: pre-orders begin 12 November, with deliveries expected during the 2026 holiday season.
- Gentle Monster: its first Intelligent Eyewear collection launches in December.
- Google and Samsung: the glasses combine Google Gemini and Android XR software with Samsung hardware engineering.
- Phone compatibility: Google says the eyewear will pair with both Android and iOS phones.
What can the glasses do?
These first models are audio-and-camera smart glasses rather than full augmented-reality spectacles with displays in the lenses. Users can call on Gemini by voice or by tapping the side of the frame.
- Ask Gemini questions about objects and places in view
- Receive spoken turn-by-turn navigation
- Make calls, send messages and hear summaries
- Take photographs and record video hands-free
- Translate speech and written text
- Use phone apps and complete supported tasks by voice
Gentle Monster also says its lightweight glasses will offer up to nine hours of battery life, while the charging case will provide seven or more additional charges.
Why this launch matters
Meta has had a considerable head start in fashionable AI glasses. Android XR now gives Google and Samsung a route into the same market, while Warby Parker and Gentle Monster bring established eyewear design and retail experience.
The launch also shows how broad Android XR is intended to become. It is not simply an operating system for enclosed mixed-reality headsets: Google wants it to power lightweight, all-day glasses as well.
Do not confuse these products with display-equipped AR glasses. Google has said that display glasses are also planned, but the first commercial collections rely on cameras, microphones, speakers and voice interaction rather than images projected into the wearer’s view.
